Dynamic hygrothermal behavior and energy performance analysis of a novel multilayer building envelope based on PCM and hemp concrete

Phase change materials (PCMs) have high thermal inertia while hygroscopic hygric inertia. However, few studies integrated the two and considered both hygrothermal behavior energy performance. This study proposed a novel multilayer building envelope by PCM bio-based material (hemp concrete) to utilize advantages of materials. Four configurations were experimental studied based on presence location effect its performance envelope. The results demonstrated benefits in reducing temperature/relative humidity (T/RH) amplitude consumption as well delaying peak T Placement middle was recommended, with kept partially melted state. Compared configuration without PCM, T/RH reduced 50%/60% 15.3%, respectively, delayed 70.4%. placed outdoor side had highest efficiency participation, but it absorbed most heat prone overmelting. indoor lost benefit regulating RH. provides reference for envelopes composed PCMs dedicated regulation.
